A dye-gun platformer, in your browser

Nothing to download: Couleur runs in the browser. Here is what to know before you jump.

The idea

The world has gone grey. An apprentice, Lou, crosses a dye works with a dye gun. Each dye changes the physics of the surface it touches, and the colour stays on the scenery: go back, and everything is still coloured.

The three dyes

  • Water erases the dye and resets the surface.
  • Madder (red) bounces: the floor throws you up, a wall throws you sideways.
  • Saffron (yellow) gives grip: you can run along walls and across ceilings.

Ink never runs out. The level decides where madder and saffron hold: on mortar the dye stays, on chrome it slides off.

The five worlds

Granny’s workshop, the vats, the drying loft, the lance room and Javelux tower. Each has its own colour, and each level is split into stretches with checkpoints: a fall brings you back to the last one, not to the start.

Controls

  • Keyboard: ZQSD or WASD to move, Space to jump, left and right click to dye, R to restart from the last checkpoint.
  • Controller: left stick to move, right stick to aim, A to jump.
  • iPhone: turn the phone to landscape. The floating stick is on the left; the three dyes sit on the right, around the jump button.

All the buttons can be changed.

On which devices

Computer, in a recent browser. iPhone, from Safari, in landscape. You can add the game to your home screen from the Options menu. A separate iPhone version is planned, with no date.
